Drumstick sambar/ Murungakai sambar


Drumstick sambar is good sidedish for plain rice or even we can have it with idli or dosa. The aroma of drumstick is awesome.














Here is the recipe...(updated picture)




Ingredients:


Drumstick  - 1 no.

Onion - 1 no.

Tamrind - gooseberry size

Toor dal - 1/2 cup

Mustard seed - 1tsp

Curry leaves - 1 sprig

Asafoetdia - 1/4 tsp

Turmeric powder - 1/4 tsp

Sambar powder - 2 tbsp

Red chilli - 3 no.

Oil - 1 tbsp

Salt - as needed

Water -  as needed

Method:


1. Heat oil in a pan , splutter mustard , then add curryleaves , redchillies,  asafoetida and onion fry till transparent. then add drumstick pieces.





2. Add tamrind extract, sambar powder, turmeric powder and salt to it. Allow it to boil.



3. Pressure cook thedal for 3 - 4 whistles.


4. When raw smell of the tamrind goes, add cooked dal and stir well. check for salt and spicy level and adjust accordingly.




5. Boil it for 2- 3 minutes. Now our sambar is ready.





We had this sambar with potato curry.




See how beautiful it is.... drumstick sitting in the middle part of the rice...




Notes

  • I used home made sambar powder. So depending upon the spicy level of your powder, you can adjust the quantity of sambar powder.
