Potato Curry/ Sidedish for rice

It has been a long time since i posted South indian recipe. So today its potato curry, simple but tasty one.  There are many variations in potato curry. Here is my version. I will post all variations in near future. It is a  suitable sidedish for  rice with sambar or rasam . Even with curd rice it tastes best. Potato is  universal  veggie liked by all. Also kid's favorite veggie. So try this spicy curry to relish all members of your family.

Here is the recipe...

Ingredients:

Potato - 2 nos medium sized

Onion - 1 no small sized

Garlic -  4 small pieces

Mustard - 1/2 tsp

Chilli powder - 3/4 tsp

Oil - 1 tbsp

Salt as needed

Method:

1. Chop the potatoes in to small cubes and steam cook it. I used my electric cooker and steaming plate for  steam cooking potatoes.  Alternatively  you can pressure cook it by  adding little water say 1/4 cup for  1 whistle.

2. Chop onion and garlic finely. In a pan heat a tbsp of oil, add mustard seeds. When it pops add chopped garlic. Fry it for a minute. Then add chopped onion and fry it till onion turns transparent. Then add  cubbed and boiled potatoes. Fry it for a minute. Then add chilli powder and salt. Fry well in a medium flame till masalas blend with potatoes.

3. Reduce the flame and stir the curry constantly till golden brown spots appears on potato. If required drizzle some oil while stiring.  Finally  transfer the potato curry in to the serving bowl.

Now our spicy potato curry is ready  :)

Serve hot with rice :)

Notes:

  • You  can also add 1/4 tsp of garam masala along with chilli powder.

  • Keep an eye  while  stirring  potato curry . Else it may get burnt.
  • You can also crush the garlic and add  instead of chopping it.
