Peas pulao / Matar pulao / Pattani sadam

Peas pulao is a flavourful one pot meal.  Its also simple and easy to prepare.  I have made it several times  and every time i got a  tasty pulao. My husband likes this  pulao very much. So usually  in sundays i prepare this pulao and pair it up with onion raita.
Peas pulao + onion raita and curd  rice + pickle  makes a hearty meal during weekends. Should i say to take a nap after this wholesome and hearty meal?  enjoy this weekend by having delicious and flavourful peas pulao.

Here is the recipe...

Recipe Category    : North Indian main course
Preparation time   : 10 mins
Cooking time         : 30 mins
Serves                     : 2 - 3 persons

Ingredients:

Basmati rice - 1 cup

Peas - 1 cup

Water - 1 and 1/2

Onion - 1 no

Ginger - 1 inch  piece

Garlic -  4-5 pieces

Green chillies - 4 -5 nos

Mint leaves - 1 fistful

Coriander leaves - 1 fistful

Cinnamon - 1 inch stick

Cloves - 2 nos

Cardamom - 1 no

Star anise - 1 piece

Bayleaf - 2 nos

Oil - 2 tbsp

Salt - as needed

Method:

1. Soak basmati rice for atleast 30 mins. Slice onion, slit green chillies, chop coriander leaves , pluck mint leaves and thaw the green peas if using frozen ones. If using dried ones, then soak it overnight.

2. Grind ginger and garlic by adding little water.

3. Heat 2 tbsps of oil, add bayleaf, cinnamon, cardamom , star anise and cloves.  Then add onion and fry it till it turns transparent.

4. Now add ginger garlic paste and fry it till raw smell leaves. Then add green peas  and fry it for a minute.

5. Then add mint and coriander leaves and fry till leaves shrinks. Then add green chillies and fry it for a minute.

6. Now add water  and salt. Allow it to boil. When  water comes to boil, add soaked and drained basmati rice.

7.  Now let rice and water boils nicely. After 10 - 15 mins rice will be cooked 80% and there will be very little water remaining in a pressure cooker. Now close the lid of pressure cooker. Put the whistle (pressure regulating valve) and keep the  stove  to  the maximum lowest  flame for 10 - 12 mins.   After pressure subsides, fluff it with a fork and serve hot.

Now our peas pulao is ready.

I served with onion raita.

Notes:

  • Adjust water quantity according to your quality of rice.

  • Don't skip mint and coriander leaves as it gives nice flavour to pulao.

  • If you can't put your stove to the  maximum lowest flame, then place dosa tawa over the stove , now keep the pressure cooker on the dosa tawa and  cook the pulao. Or as soon as water and rice comes to boil, close the lid with whistle and give 2 whistles in medium flame.

Have a happy meal :)
