Broccoli stir fry / Broccoli poriyal

Brocolli is the vegetable which is rich in vitamin c and dietary  fiber also the source of folate . (Source - Wikipedia). Because of its health benefits  I try to include this veggie in our menu. I usually make this stir fry as a  sidedish along with sambar or kootu. My husband  doesn 't like broccoli and takes less amount of this poriyal during lunch.  But  I force him to take this goodness in more amount as  staying healthy is very important. Now coming to the recipe, its very easy to prepare. Prepare this and make your family nutritious.

Here is the recipe...

Ingredients:

Broccoli -  1 no

Onion - 1 no

Coconut - 1 tbsp (grated)

Chilli powder - 1 tsp

Salt - as needed

Oil - 1 tsp

To Temper :

Mustard - 1 tsp

Jeera - 1 tsp

Ginger - 1 tbsp (finely chopped)

Method:

1.  Finely chop onion and ginger.  Steam the broccoli and keep aside.  ( I used my electric rice cooker along with vegetable steamer to steam broccoli.)

2.Heat oil in a pan splutter mustard, add jeera , then  finely chopped ginger ,finally onion and stir well.

3. Now add Steamed broccoli . Stir for a minute.  Then add chillipowder , toss well . Finally add tbsp of grated coconut.

4. Stir well for a minute. Then switch off the flame and serve the nutritious Broccoli stir fry.

Broccoli stir fry is now  ready in minutes...

Notes:

  • The Broccoli will be steamed within minutes. So don't steam it for longer time as the vitamins may be lost
  • Always try to buy fresh Broccoli.  If broccoli is older the florets will appear in yellow colour.
  • I used Olive oil . You can use gingelly oil or sunflower oil also.
