Onion tomato chutney/ Side dish for Idly / dosa

Onion tomato chutney is  a good sidedish for idly and dosa or you can have this  even with upma , pongal and curd rice . There are many variations in this chutney.  This is  a basic one.  I ll post other variations in future . This is a spicy chutney and perfect accompaniment for idly and dosa. 












Here is the recipe...



Ingredients:


Onion - 1 no

Tomato - 1 no (large sized)

Red chillies - 4 -5 nos

Coriander leaves - 1/4 cup

Oil - 1 tbsp

Salt - as needed

Water - as needed

To temper:

Oil - 1 tsp

Mustard - 1/2 tsp

Urad dal (splited) - 1/2 tsp

Curry leaves - 1 sprig


Method:

1. Heat oil in a pan , Add red chillies fry them till golden brown . Now add  cubed onions. Fry them till onion turns transparent.



2. Now add  cubed tomatoes and fry  them  till its  skin get shrinked.  Then add coriander leaves toss it for a minute and switch off the stove.



3. Transfer the contents to mixer jar. Allow it to cool and grind it by adding little water say 1 or 2 tbsp .



4. In a  tadka pan , heat a tsp of oil and add mustard. when it splutters add urad dal and fry it till golden brown . Finally add curryleaves . give a quick stir and switch off the stove. Transfer this seasoning to the chutney  mix well and serve.



Chutney is ready to serve...



Have with  hot idly / dosa...



Notes:

  • Dont add more water than mentioned.
  • Cool it completely before grinding . Otherwise Chutmay may split from jar  while grinding.
