Phool makhana... Are you heard of it before? some might be familiar with this ... For those who aren't heard this before, phool makhana is puffed lotus seed called as fox nut . The lotous seed is puffed like popcorn and it is widely used in North india especially during vrats. They usually prepare kheer ,and curry with this makhana or simply roasting it for snacks.
Phool makhana has many health benefits and low in calorie too. So Calorie conscious people can roast it and have it as a snack. It taste similar to popcorn and health wise it is much better than popcorn .
Here is the recipe...
Ingredients:
Phool makhana - 1.5 cups heaped
Red chilli powder - 1/2 tsp
Black pepper powder - 1/4 tsp
Chat masala powder - 1/2 tsp
Turmeric powder - 1/4 tsp
Oil - 2 tsp
This is how Phool makhana looks before roasting.
Method:
1. Take all your spice powders in a small plate and keep aside. Now heat oil in a pan and roast makhana until it is crispy. It takes nearly 10 - 12 mins. In order to check, pop one or two makhana in your mouth . If it is crispy ,it is done else roast it for some minutes.
2. Now add turmeric powder . Toss well . Then add other spice powders , Give a quick toss and switch off the stove. If you cook for a long time, masalas will be burnt.
Roasted Phool makhana is ready. Cool down completely and store it in a airtight container. You can munch it any time without feeling guilty since it is a healthy snack.

Notes:
- Roast it in a medium flame with constant stirring to ensure even roasting.
