Palak paratha/ Spinach paratha

Palak paratha is a healthy and tasty paratha. Its very simple to prepare as it requires no stuffing.
Here in Germany, every week i get  a pack of fresh palak. So i make  palak dishes like dal palak , palak kootu, palak stirfry, palak kofta, and aloo palak very often and palak paratha is no exception. If you get a bunch of palak ,don't forget to try this paratha

Here is the recipe...

Ingredients:

Wheat flour/ Atta - 1 cup

Spinach / Palak - 1 cup (chopped and tightly packed)

Jeera - 1 tsp

Red chilli powder - 1 tsp

Turmeric powder - 1/4 tsp

Oil - 2 tbsp

Salt - as needed

Water - as needed

Method:

1. Take  1 cup of wheat flour in a wide bowl and roughly chop the spinach.

2. In a pan heat  1 tbsp of oil and add jeera , when it crackles, add chopped spinach .

3. Within minutes the spinach will be  cooked and it will be shrinked in volume.  Now  transfer  cooked spinach  to the wheat  flour  bowl.

4.  Mix well. Then add chilli powder, turmeric powder, salt and mix well. So that masalas and spinach will be blended with wheat flour.

5.  Now add water little by little and gather it to a smooth and pliable dough.  Add tbsp of oil while kneading to avoid stickiness of dough. Once you knead in to smooth  and pliable dough, keep aside for 10 mins with cling wrap  and divide the dough in to equal sized balls.

6. Now take one ball out of it  and dust it with a wheat flour and roll it  in to little thick parathas.

7.  Heat a non stick tawa , drizzle oil, transfer the paratha  to  the tawa and apply oil on the paratha and cook both sides until it gets golden spots. Serve warm.

Our palak paratha is ready! stack the parathas in roti basket or in hot box and serve warm...

Serve with curd and pickle...  Smear  the parathas with ghee or butter if you like :)

Notes:

  • Use fresh spinach and clean and wash it  before chopping it.
  • If dough is sticky while kneading, add more oil
  • Dust with flour while rolling if necessary.
