Ragi dosa(Millet dosa)

Ragi(millet) is rich in calcium. Which is almost equivalent to milk.So we should consume this for our good health. Many dishes like Ragi puttu , Ragi adai, Ragi semiya, Ragi idiyappam....can be prepared with Ragi easily and this dosa comes under this category . Soon i will post other dishes too...My mom is health conscious and she  frequently prepares this. Initally she prepared by grinding the soaked Urad dal and soaked Ragi and felt that the dosa is little bit hard. Now she learnt the new method. Mixing the dry rice flour and ragi flour with water to form the batter and making dosas. and the dosas are really awesome. They are crispy too...

Here is the simple Ragi dosa recipe which i  borrowed from my mom.

Ingredients:

Ragi flour    -    1/4 cup

Rice flour    -    1 cup

Cumin seeds    -    1 tbsp

Onion    -    1

Red chillies    -    6 nos

Water    -    as needed

Salt    -    as needed

Oil    -    1 tbsp

Method

  1. Take ragi and rice flour in a large bowl, mix salt and water to it. The batter should be in the butter milk consistency. If it is thick then the dosa will not be crispy.

  2. Heat kadai and put oil. When oil gets heated add cumin seeds, red chilles(broken in to 2- 3 pieces)and onion. Fry until onion turns to transparent.

  3. Add this to the batter and mix well. The batter looks like this:

  4. Heat the tawa. Pour the batter to form the outer circle ant then fill the center like we do for rava dosa.

  5. Drizzle the oil over the sides of dosa. Cook in the medium flame.

  6. Now the crispy ragi dosa is ready.

This dosa goes well with curd and hot chutneys like Red chilli  chutney, Poondu chutney and Onion tomato chutney.
I had with Onion tomato chutney.

Note

  • The batter should be watery. Otherwise the dosa will not be crispy.
  • Be generous in adding the cumin seeds.
