Vegetable manchurian gravy / Indo Chinese recipe ( 蔬菜满洲肉汁 - Shūcài mǎnzhōu ròuzhī )

 Vegetable manchurian gravy recipe is a Indo chinese recipe. It goes well with Vegetable  Fried rice. I have tasted this recipe in various restaurants. In some restaurants it tastes good but in others its not up to the mark. So decided to prepare in home itself. The recipe needs soya sauce and chilli tomato sauce. First i doubted whether i can get that  here in Germany. But to my suprise  i found both. One fine day i bought soya sauce  and chilli tomato sauce and tried it.  It came very nice.  Since then whenever i crave for manchurian gravy, i prepare this along with fried rice and enjoy heartily. Now its your turn . Try it and relish you and your family.




Here is the recipe...


Ingredients:

For  vegetable manchurian balls:

Carrot - 1/4 cup(finely chopped)

Beans - 1/4 cup(finely chopped)

Cabbage - 1/2 cup(finely chopped)

Maida / All purpose flour - 1/2 cup heaped

Corn flour - 2 tbsp heaped

Soy sauce - 1 tsp

Pepper powder - 1 tsp

Oil - for deep frying

Salt - as needed

Water - as needed

For gravy:

Garlic - 6  flakes (finely chopped)

Spring onion - 4 sprigs(finely chopped)

Green chilli - 2 nos(finely chopped)

Chilli tomato sauce - 1/4 cup

Soya sauce - 1 and 1/2 tbsp

Corn flour - 1 and 1/2 tbsp

Pepper powder - 1 tsp

Water - 1 cup

Oil - 2 tbsp

Salt - as needed


Method:

1. Finely chop carrot, beans and cabbage. In a bowl take all the ingredients such as maida, cornflour, pepper powder , soy sauce, salt and chopped veggies. Mix well. Now sprinkle water little by little and knead it to a thick batter.




2. Make small balls out a dough . Heat  Enough oil in a pan. Fry the manchurian balls in batches. Fry the balls in a medium heat. 



3. In a pan heat oil, add chopped garlic fry it for 1 minute in a high flame. Now add spring onion  and greenchillies fry it for a minute. Then add chilli tomato sauce, soy sauce , pepper powder and salt. Stir well.


4.   Dissolve cornflour in 1 cup of water and pour it to the  above mixture. and keep stirring until  the mixture  starts to boil and changes deep brown in colour.


5.  When gravy reaches thick and shiny consistency, add fried manchurian balls and stir well. Transfer it to the serving bowl.



Garnish with some chopped spring onions . Serve hot ...



Enjoy with  Vegetable fried rice :)



Notes:

  • The gravy should not be thin. also it should not be too thick . So adjust the water quantity accordingly.

  • Reserve some spring onions for garnishing while serving.

  • If your chilli tomato sauce is not sweet , then add 1 tsp of sugar to get slight tangy and sweet taste.

  • Generally ajino motto is added in any chinese dishes. But i didn't add considering its health effects.

  • Fry the balls in medium heat, If you fry it in high heat, then outer part will be cooked soon while inside part will not be cooked.

  • If you dont want to deep fry the balls, then Steam the veggies and add it to the flour and prepare dough  asusual  and make small balls out of it and  fry it in a paniyaram pan .

  • Always serve hot. it may turn soggy when resting time is given.
