Semiya Adai/ Vermicelli Adai

This semiya adai is best  for evening time snacks. I learnt this recipe from the cookbook. I did little modification to suit to our taste. When I made this first time in my home, everyone in my family enjoyed this. So whenever  my mom wants to make this snack, she will  leave the kitchen to me. After  marriage this is the first time I am making this.
This is simple recipe .  Give a try and rejoice your kids who are coming back to home tiredly...

Venpongal

After a long gap...  I am with the new post.  Venpongal is the South indian breakfast recipe made  with  raw rice , moong dal and of course with some spices. During winters it is often made in our home as it contains pepper which is the best medicine for cold and cough.  The aroma of ghee in it will make divine feeling.  My father usally orders venpongal  when we dine out  at mornings.  The amount of ghee added in the pongal will be more in the hotels. So Calorie conscious me and my mom usually won't opt this in the hotels.

Day before yesterday I tried this cake. it came out very well. My mom made this cake  when she visited my chiti 's home. All were saying that  the cake was awesome. And  especially the kiddos enjoyed a lot. By hearing these comment i too wanted to try this. But when i made that cake  for the first time, the outer color was perfect, but the center of the cake was Gooey. I didn't know where i did the mistake. So i wanted to try another time to get the perfect one. ya..this time I succeed . The texture was perfect. The aroma was awesome. My husband loved it like anything, he was surprised how I got this texture without egg. And  he asked me to buy any backing utensils as his gift for the wonderful cake I made.

Vatha kulambu / Puli kulambu

We call this as ' Vatha kulambu' or puli kulambu. During mango season. My grandma make  'Maavathal' .That is drying the mango which is soaked in salt water under the sun. It is a time consuming process and takes 2 - 3 days for preparing this vathal. My grandma makes in large batches and store it in a big container. She usually gives a small portion from it to my mom when we are visiting her place.
Before making kulambu ,my mom soaks this vathal in a hot water for 15 mins and add it to the sambar while adding onion. thats why it is named as vatha kulambu. As it contains enormous amount of tamrind(puli in tamil), it is also kown as puli kulambu. ok... stories over... back to the recipe...

Vegetable puff

Yesterday my long time dream became true. Ya... I wanted to try veg puff at home. After purchasing oven at my home , me and my mom wanted to try this, but sadly we searched many supermarkets and not able to find pasty sheets. So dropped our idea. After coming to Germany, very recently i visited my friend's house for a birthday party of her daughter. That evening she made a snack using puffs pastry sheet. seeing and tasting that dish, i wanted to make puffs at home. I inquired her about the shop, where she purchased pastry sheet. Next week i went to the same shop (i have already been to this shop but didn't spot this item before) and purchased that. i was so happy inside my mind. The first thing i do after coming home is i shared my happiness to my mom through the phone. Because we both went mad in searching this sheet in our place.

Bitter gourd paruppu usli(stir fry)

I know most of you wont like bitter gourd.  But this veggie is good for our health. It has a capacity to kill the worms in our stomach. So at least once in a month you can add this veggie to your lunch. But this paruppu usli will  be awesome and the bitterness of the bitter gourd is reduced so much. I am sure that you will not feel that you are eating the bitter gourd. You can have  this paruppu usli with rice,  topped with seasame oil. Apalam will be great sidedish for rice and paruppu usli combo. It also goes with sambar and curd rice.
