Wheat Rava upma


Wheat rava upma is a simple breakfast recipe. I like white rava upma much than this one. But nowadays Iam making this upma frequently(diet conscious... he ... he..) My dad always tells that he is best in making this wheat rava upma than mom(he tells like that , but only one time he had made this. Vagely i remember that accident sorry sorry incident. He made upma with little bit excess salt. But still that is special to my heart.

Vegetable uthapam


Uthapam is the thick dosa topped with veggies. My dad likes onion uthapam much. But my mom prepares this occasionally.My mom is keen in making different types of dosa like Ragi dosa, kambu dosa, chola dosa, keerai dosa, venthaya dosa...(Health conscious) Once in a blue moon she makes uthapam. My dad likes the uthapam which is made in kadai than the one which is made in dosa tawa.Uthapam made in kadai have a enriched taste than the tawa uthapam.

Aval (poha) upma



Aval upma is easy and simple breakfast recipe. We can make it in a jiffy. I like aval upma much. But for my hubby its a okay type food. He likes the sweet version of aval than the upma. Sweet aval is prepared by mixing the soaked aval, powdered jaggery and grated coconut. It can be made as a evening snack and it is a healthy one.

     In morning, if i dont have idli or dosa batter in stock and bored of making rava upma my choice will be AVAL UPMA. You can use thick or thin aval. Here i used thin aval.

Idli


Idli is the main South Indian breakfast / dinner recipe. Some are struggling to get soft idlies. if you use good quality urad dal in a correct ratio, I am sure that you will get soft idlies. This post is purely for bachelors and beginners.

 In childhood days,i was an enemy to Idli. I hate idly and sambar. My mom used to struggle a lot to feed idly to me. She used to run behind me for making  me to eat idli. Now I changed a lot and taking idli frequently. After marriage I am making idli at least once in a week. because:

1. It is easy to make. We can refrigerate the batter and  make idlies  in  a tight morning schedule.

2. It is a steam boiled food and contains no oil .

Adai

Adai is one of the South Indian recipe. It is the mixture of various dals and rice. My mom usually makes this during a weekend.So that all members in the family can patiently wait and have adais. And it involves  some grinding work also,  so that we can' t make this in a hurry. In our family my mom makes Adai one by one . The very first Adai goes to GOD as neivethiyam. Then the next will be to my younger sister. I usually stole some pieces from her plate as i am hungry and can't wait for my turn. oh!!!  that is awesome!!!
Avial is the perfect sidedish for Adai. Adai avial is the classic combo. But i love to have Adai with butter and powdered jaggery.

Ragi dosa(Millet dosa)


Ragi(millet) is rich in calcium. Which is almost equivalent to milk.So we should consume this for our good health. Many dishes like Ragi puttu , Ragi adai, Ragi semiya, Ragi idiyappam....can be prepared with Ragi easily and this dosa comes under this category . Soon i will post other dishes too...My mom is health conscious and she  frequently prepares this. Initally she prepared by grinding the soaked Urad dal and soaked Ragi and felt that the dosa is little bit hard. Now she learnt the new method. Mixing the dry rice flour and ragi flour with water to form the batter and making dosas. and the dosas are really awesome. They are crispy too...

Dosa


We can count the people who doesn't likes crispy dosa. Ghee dosa + coconut chutney + drumstick sambar is the ultimate combination in the world.(Agree?) . Iam proud to say Iam a expert in making crispy dosa. During School and college days, I used to make crispy dosa for the whole family(batter making process will be done by my  mom...I dont want to do that messy works. But after marriage!!!!??? No way to escape from that work. )



Whenever i go to my grandma's house for the vacation. My uncle wants me to prepare dosa for him. Grandma and mami used to prepare dosa for all the members except mama. When my uncle comes to eat , my grandma leaves kitchen to me..(old memories...)
